  • Christian Disciplines ~ Introduction

The Christian disciplines class is a way for us to learn practices that will enrich and benefit us in cultivating a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.  We will discuss how none of the disciplines win us more favor in the eyes of God or make us more holy because we practice them.  However, they will ignite in us a deeper passion for God, his word, and make us more sensitive to Jesus Christ and his Holy Spirit in our lives.  We will be exploring these practices together and find those that work for each of us.

  • Session 01 ~ Quiet Time

The discipline of developing a quite time benefits us because it is centered on the intentional objective of finding ways to separate ourselves from the variety of distractions we always face.  This session invites us to build on the disciplines of solitude, listening/silence, and meditation.

  • Session 02 ~ Prayer

The discipline is one of the most fundamental practices to our Christian faith and one of the hardest to describe, teach on, or maintain.  This session is meant to encourage each of us to develop a creative approach to communicating with the living God that inspires us to pursue him more.

  • Session 03 ~ Bible Study

The discipline of Bible Study calls us to set aside a time to intentionally examine God's word in an analytical way that seeks to understand the truest meaning of the biblical texts.  This session provides thoughts on the difference between devotional reading of the Bible and biblical analysis and give some helpful ideas about how to use your Bible study time well.

  • Session 04 ~ Worship

The discipline of worship is essential for the Christian and the whole of the believer's life is incorporated with worship God in Spirit and truth.  For the believer, worship is a lifestyle in which we surrender our bodies, all that we do and pursue, to God as living sacrifices.  This session digs in to these truths using biblical examples of key scriptures to help us understand the nature of Christian worship.

  • Session 06 ~ Social Justice

This session addresses social justice which focuses on the common good of the community and concerns such areas as fair and equal distribution of goods and benefits, respect for human rights, etc. In a broader sense, God models his divine justice and Jesus exemplifies righteousness,  how to love God, and how to love our neighbors, fellow bearers of the image of God, as our selves.
