Why Should I Be a Part of a Life Group? "Community is the place God made for us. Community is the place God meets us." (John Ortberg)
No one is meant to travel the journey of life alone. No human being has been created to be a "solo sapient." We have been designed by God to discover, experience and enjoy life in relationships - not in isolation. Healthy Life Groups powerfully provide the necessary environment to develop and foster deep and meaningful relationships that God uses to bring about healing, growth and transformation in our lives. Life Groups are not something new - they have been around since the beginning of the early church. In Acts 2:46-47 we read: "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Further on in Acts, the Apostle Paul states: "You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house" (Acts 20:20). The early church understood the value of not only the larger ("temple"/public) gatherings of God's people, but also the smaller ("house to house") gatherings - what we call Life Groups here at FBC. Each had their role in building up the believers and extending God's kingdom.
Here at First Baptist Church we value and understand the importance of vibrant, life-changing Life Groups. Our hearts desire is to see that everybody at FBC has a place and the space to develop and nurture authentic and caring relationships, resulting in a deeper relationship with Jesus, stronger relationships with others, and an increasing sense of purpose from contributing to God's mission.
