Life Groups

What is a Life Group at F.B.C.?
"If you want to travel faster, go alone; if you want to travel farther, go together." (African Proverb)
Definition:
A Life Group consists of two or more people who want to experience a vibrant, life-changing relationship with God resulting in a stronger relationship with Jesus, more meaningful connection with others, and a greater sense of purpose from partnering with God in His mission.
What to Expect from a Connection
. Life-transformation
. Meaningful, authentic and caring friendships
. Growing intimacy with Jesus
. Significance from being a part of something bigger than yourself
. Increased understanding of what it means to be a Christ-follower
. Greater knowledge of what the Bible says and means for you
today
. Growth in your ability to make an eternal impact with your life
. More ways to grow spiritually and share your faith with family
and friends
Here at FBC we say, "it's all about relationships - with God, each
other and the world." And we characterize these relationships in the
following way:
. A Growing Commitment to the Person of Christ - our
relationship with God.
. A Deepening Connection to the Body of Christ - our relationship
with each other.
. An Increasing Contribution to the Mission of Christ - our
relationship with the world.
Life Groups provide the environment for each person to cultivate
and nourish these '3 C' Relationships.
Why Life Groups at FBC?
"Community is the place God made for us. Community is the place God meets us." (John Ortberg)
No one is meant to travel the journey of life alone. No human being has been created to be a "solo sapient." We have been designed by God to discover, experience and enjoy life in relationships - not in isolation. Healthy Life Groups powerfully provide the necessary environment to develop and foster deep and meaningful relationships that God uses to bring about healing, growth and transformation in our lives. Life Groups are not something new - they have been around since the beginning of the early church. In Acts 2:46-47 we read: "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Further on in Acts, the Apostle Paul states: "You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house" (Acts 20:20). The early church understood the value of not only the larger ("temple"/public) gatherings of God's people, but also the smaller ("house to house") gatherings - what we call Life Groups here at FBC. Each had their role in building up the believers and extending God's kingdom.
Here at First Baptist Church we value and understand the importance of vibrant, life-changing Life Groups. Our hearts desire is to see that everybody at FBC has a place and the space to develop and nurture authentic and caring relationships, resulting in a stronger relationship with Jesus, more meaningful relationship with others, and a greater sense of purpose from partnering with God in His mission - our '3 C' Relationships.
